It is almost time for groups to start on October 1st, so lets finish up lolesports.com top 20 at Worlds list, today we have Invictus Gaming’s jungler KAKAO at number 4 and LDG’s mid laner GODV and number 3. For KAKAO, this is his first trip to Worlds, even though he enjoyed plenty of success in Korea, now since his move to China’s LPL, he has made it! Emily Rand talks about his previous attempts at the grand stage:
Last year in Korea, KAKAO was called a king.
The master manipulator of Group Stage draws, KAKAO stated that he wanted to obliterate the SKT organization in 2014 Champions Spring. Thanks to a series of extraordinary circumstances, timely performances, and a dash of luck, he succeeded in becoming a constant thorn in SKT T1’s side throughout 2014. KAKAO was known for his affable smile, unmistakable laugh, and unforgettable jungling. Bending opponents to his will, KAKAO set the pace early and relentlessly continued this aggression in the mid and late game.
In Champions Summer 2014, KAKAO led the KT Arrows to their first ever domestic victory in the form of a 3-2 nailbiter against Samsung Blue. Yet, in spite of incredible domestic performances, KAKAO has not yet had international success. In both 2013 and 2014, his teams failed to qualify for competitions outside of Korea.
KAKAO is still a king in the jungle and is the best one at Worlds. With so many viable junglers on the 5.18 patch for Worlds, he might just be unstoppable, so keep an eye out for all IG games. Next on the list is GODV, another reason why LDG is a favor to win Worlds, as there aren’t many players that can stop him in the mid lane. Rachel Gu reminds us that it wasn’t always the case with GODV:
It seems strange that a star now known for his flexibility is the same player that only a year ago was known as a stubborn solo-carry. In the early part of his career GODV had one mindset — to desperately carry his team on his back. He would selfishly hoard every resource available — including farming the jungle in addition to his lane minions — and attempt to win games with sheer mechanics alone. As a result, his gold-starved teammates were little more than sideshow distractions to GODV’s role in the spotlight.
But over the past year, GODV learned to take a step back and analyze his purpose within LGD Gaming. He fine tuned his aggressive play style, maintaining the constant mid lane pressure while reducing his overwhelming consumption of resources. With mid constantly pushed, GODV roams around the map and alleviates pressure on his side lanes. The GODV show is now the LGD Gaming show, and a 1st place finish in the 2015 LPL Summer Playoffs looks like just the beginning.
The player they call God in China may just be the God of the tournament, but there are still 2 players at Worlds who top him, if I were a betting man, I would say Imp and Faker take these spots. We will wait and see though, until then see the full article on KAKAO here and the full article on GODV here.
