The Man Behind Fnatic’s Perfect Split!

Going from the world of Poker into eSports is an odd career change, but as Fnatic took first in the EU LCS spring split, and then went undefeated this Summer, you gotta think Fnatic head coach Deilor made a good move.  Over on FNATIC.com, ziminaite has the team’s view of all the work he put it to bring Fnatic to the top, see what veteran Yellowstar has to say about his coach:

YellOwStaR: For someone who didn’t have a lot of experience in League of Legends, Deilor really impressed me. The patience he has to educate, explain things and his process of thinking are really good. He is rational and logical which is rare among other coaches who are often younger. When we had no coaches and no analysts, I was working a lot on drafts and strategies. I see that Luis tries to innovate. We just give him all of the information and then he thinks about new solutions and areas to improve. He pushes us out from our comfort zone in order to make us stronger. He is the one bringing the teammates together. Most of the time when something goes wrong and our team is losing, the players tend to blame each other and fight. Luis is great in explaining and improving the team spirit and communication. It is not easy to hear that you are doing bad, but I think we improve by receiving feedback from him. It was not easy in the beginning for Febiven but now we are all good. Analyzing your weaknesses is the only way to get better and we all understand it. Luis had to earn everyone’s trust, but now he has already displayed how efficient his work is. If he hadn’t, we wouldn’t be here with our vast improvements in such a short period of time.

As a person Luis is really calm, his peacefulness is enviable. He is patient and professional. At the same time he has his trolling moments, he likes to be sarcastic and flame us a bit. We can talk about everything with him, there are no taboos. Luis gives good advice and it’s enjoyable to stay around him.

Of course, sometimes he faces some resistance in real-life situations. I would say that Luis in some ways is like a dad for younger players. He keeps telling them what to do, hearing their “no, no, no” hundreds of times. He can’t be super close to us because then he would turn into a friend, and he wants to be professional and respected. We have to separate fun and work because we all live together. For us, when he leaves the gaming house, the atmosphere in the house is not the same. We have rules and he is our sentinel. He is the one looking after us. When Luis leaves, some stuff can go really wrong. However, now we still have his voice in the back of our heads, and we actually feel guilty if we do something he would not like. As an example, Febiven and ReignOver said that we were not allowed to eat in front of our computers, they were planning to do it when Deilor left. However, because they did not feel comfortable breaking that rule, they didn’t. Another thing about Luis is that he likes to go outside. We as gamers can stay forever in the basement, so he is the one trying to get us involved in some other activities, at least having us eat outside.

Yellowstar has now qualified for all 5 World’s and his insight into working with Delior shows how he made this team the best in Europe.  See what the rest of the team has to offer in the full article here.  Good Luck to Fnatic in the finals!  Even in playoffs they are undefeated, lets see them good for a flawless post season!
